6 October: Conference on Living within Planetary Boundaries

The EEAC co-organised the conference Living within Planetary Boundaries with the German Advisory Council on the Environment (SRU) and the German Environment Agency (UBA). As part of the programme, we hosted a sub-session on tackling problematic production and consumption patterns. The session’s key message was that sufficiency is still largely absent from public debate, even though consumption in Europe is already excessive.

7-8 October: EEAC Annual Assembly

The Assembly brought councils together to discuss how to stay relevant in times of polycrisis and shifting political priorities. Two keynote speakers, Louis Meuleman (EEA Scientific Committee) and Luisa Marelli (European Commission’s Joint Research Centre), opened the discussion with reflections on the science-policy interface.

Building on this, the Working Groups led interactive sessions on strategic autonomy and its implications for the green transition. The sessions covered electrification, the bioeconomy, local SDG engagement and the EU Global Health Strategy.
