Julia Hertin is Secretary General of the German Advisory Council for the Environment (SRU). She has worked there in various positions since 2009, with the exception of the period from 2012 to 2013, when she was employed in the Federal Ministry for the Environment in the field of energy transition. Prior to this, she worked for around ten years in university research in the UK (SPRU Science and Technology Policy Research at the University of Sussex) and Germany (Environmental Policy Research Centre at the Free University of Berlin). Her research topics have included environmental policy, sustainability governance, technology and innovation, foresight and climate adaptation. She holds a PhD from Wageningen University (Netherlands), a Diploma in Political Science from the Free University of Berlin and a Franco-German Diploma in Political and Social Sciences from the Institut d'Études Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris and the Free University of Berlin.
